Research Interests
Astrocytes are essential regulators of neurodevelopment and circuit function. We are interested in understanding how astrocyte-neuron interactions influence neuronal structure, synaptic function, circuit activity, and behavior, and how these interactions are altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. We ask how cell-type-specific changes in astrocytes and neurons affect one another, what molecular and cellular mechanisms mediate these interactions, and whether shared mechanisms contribute to dysfunction across neurodevelopmental disorders. Because astrocyte-neuron interactions occur within a broader multicellular environment, we are also interested in how other brain cell types contribute to these processes. We combine molecular and genetic approaches with cell-type-specific manipulations, imaging, electrophysiology, and behavioral analysis in mouse models to investigate these questions. Our goal is to understand how these cellular interactions shape nervous system development and identify mechanisms that contribute to neurodevelopmental disease.
